Kirsty Fletcher began her career as a graphic designer and after that, started a web design and -development studio and was the Managing Director. In the end the business was sold to Ogilvy South Africa where Kirsty was appointed as senior account director for digital marketing. After she left Ogilvy Kirsty became Online Marketing Specialist at South African Tourism. After two years she decided to return to college to get a BA degree in visual arts at the University of S. A. For the last 5 years Kirsty lives and works full-time in Holland as creative artist.
Kirsty Fletcher is a South African–born artist now based in the Netherlands. She draws inspiration from the abundance of disposable items—like catalogues, magazines, and cardboard boxes—and transforms them through colouring, cutting, and folding processes into abstract sculptural works. Traces of the material’s previous life remain visible, lending her work a unique unpredictability and depth.
In both her recent and earlier pieces, you can see how she treats glossy advertising paper: the material is painted, even sanded, and sometimes sprayed, before being shaped into organic or dynamic forms. She creates both wall-mounted sculptures and small freestanding objects.
